Happy Birthday, Scientific Spam – so much new spam

We fired up the list on Tuesday, March 4, 2014. It’s been an interesting year.

A while back, we opened up a bunch of new spamtraps and the flood has taken us by surprise. Some of these are spamming so intensely that they have even caught the attention of the 800 pound gorilla. Most of our subjects do not reach this level of spamming activity, however, which is why we plan to continue to exist.

LISTED: Open Access Text (oatext.com)

oatext.com, a domain name registered to an Indian-sounding individual in Romford, Essex, UK, but styling itself Open Access Text Pvt. Ltd Suite A, 36-40 Copperfield Road, Mile End, London, E3 4RR, UK, is spamming. Their privacy policy indicates they disapprove of the practice, but perhaps they figure it only applies to others. Their ESP of choice is Benchmark Email, who have unfortunately “excelled” in this sense before. We’re still waiting for them to confirm the termination of the previous long-term problem.

LISTED: Science Publishing Group

Science Publishing Group (website, also noticed by Dr Beall’s excellent site) is targeting “Dear [AUTHOR LIST]” directly lifted off publications with spam inviting the entire group to propose a special issue and be the lead guest editor. Which of them? 🙂

LISTED: EMAS and NATA

EMAS (European Menopause and Andropause Society) and NATA (Network for the Advancement of Patient Blood Management, Haemostasis and Thrombosis) are somehow in cahoots. Or at least they both are spamming through the same facilities that are used by nobody else to our knowledge.
